Dinosaurs, beaches, rockpools, and a garden to run wild in. A week they'll talk about forever.
Inverloch is one of those rare places that works perfectly for the whole family. The kids have the calm inlet beach 2 minutes from the front door โ shallow, sheltered, and ideal for little ones and dogs alike. The foreshore footpath is just 30 seconds away and leads the whole way to town and the surf beach.
Beyond the beach, Inverloch has some genuinely extraordinary things to do with kids โ from the Dinosaur Dreaming fossil dig site (one of the few places in the world where you can actually help uncover real dinosaur bones) to the Bunurong Coast rockpools, the State Coal Mine in Wonthaggi, and day trips to Wilsons Promontory.
Back at the house, the garden is big enough to keep them busy and the kitchen is fully equipped so you can feed everyone without the restaurant logistics. And when the kids finally crash โ you have the outdoor entertaining area and a quiet evening to yourselves.
Lush outdoor space with room to run, play, and burn off energy
Everyone gets their own space โ grown-ups included
Fully equipped โ feed the whole crew without the fuss of eating out every night
Washer and dryer on site โ sandy towels sorted, pack light
The dog is part of the family too โ they're welcome here
Netflix and streaming for rainy afternoons or movie nights
For parents who need to check in โ and kids who need to be told to go outside
Plenty of space for the family car โ and all the gear that comes with it
Mix and match โ this is just one way a great school holiday week could look.
Arrive, unpack, and let the kids loose in the garden. Then walk the 30 seconds to the foreshore path and stroll to the inlet beach โ calm, shallow, and perfect for a first swim.
Easy dinner at home โ you've brought groceries and the kitchen's all set up. Early night so everyone's fresh for the week.
Head to Inverloch Dinosaur Dreaming โ one of the most unique experiences in Victoria. Kids (and adults) can participate in real fossil excavations on the Bunurong Coast. Book ahead.
Back to the house for lunch in the garden. Afternoon at the surf beach or inlet โ the kids will have stories to tell for weeks.
Walk the foreshore path to Inverloch Surf Beach (10 mins). Surf lessons are available locally โ a great activity for older kids. Younger ones are happy building sandcastles.
Back to the house for a slow afternoon. Garden time, Smart TV, or a nap for the parents.
Drive to Eagles Nest and The Caves along the Bunurong Coast (~20 min). Dramatic sea cliffs, spectacular rockpools at low tide, and the Amazon Shipwreck lookout. Kids love it.
Screw Creek Nature Walk on the way back โ easy, beautiful, and great for spotting wildlife.
Drive 15 min to the State Coal Mine in Wonthaggi. Guided underground tours that genuinely fascinate kids โ hats, lights and all. Book ahead during school holidays.
Back to Inverloch. Walk the dog to the inlet beach, let the kids play, enjoy the fact that today someone else did the entertaining.
Drive to Wilsons Promontory National Park (~1.5 hrs). Squeaky Beach, wombats, kangaroos and some of the best coastal scenery in Australia. Pack a picnic lunch. One of those days the whole family talks about for years.
Nothing planned. Beach, garden, farmers market if it's on at The Glade. Stop into Koonwarra Farm Store on a drive for cheese, olives and local produce. Let the kids lead. A slow day after a big week is exactly right.
Check out, last walk to the inlet, head home. Already planning when to come back.
Check availability and secure your school holiday dates early โ they go fast.
